We support a complete adoption of certified sustainable palm oil in Singapore to curb Southeast Asian Transboundary Haze effectively.
HAZE FOR 50 YEARS
Southeast Asian Transboundary Haze can be traced back to 1972. It occurs annually during dry seasons when fires proliferate across plantations in Malaysia and Indonesia. In 1997 and 2015, haze events costed Singapore S$100 million of economic loss and 0.17% of Gross Domestic Product, respectively. Oil palm, together with pulp and paper, exists as the major crop contributing to this calamitous cause. As banning oil palm products is economically and environmentally impractical, certified sustainable palm oil emerges as the only course to achieve a win-win situation.
We strive to ensure the local community have the knowledge and resources to make a real change in society. On top of that, we aim to partner with various organisations from different backgrounds to create a conducive environment that allows changes and initiatives to happen.
